Kayak Rental Concession Attendants (Seasonal)

Don’t spend your summer on the couch or flipping burgers! Instead, make some money while having fun outdoors. We are looking to build a small staff of self-motivated and responsible people who enjoy the outdoors and working with the general public. We value strong communication skills, timeliness, dependability, problem-solving capabilities and the ability to be level headed in the case of an emergency.

Job Duties:

• Ensure opening and closing responsibilities are completed
• Handle cash and credit card transactions
• Safely outfit customers with kayaks and canoes
• Promptly answer and return all customer phone calls
• Maintain facilities and equipment

Qualifications and Requirements:

• CPR certification
• Able to work with little to no supervision
• Transportation to and from the job site
• Willingness and commitment to uphold all policies and protocols
• Ability to work evenings, weekends and all holidays
• Ability to lift up to 65lbs repeatedly
• Excellent swimming skills

Other skills and experience that will be helpful but is not required:

• Kayak or canoeing experience
• Lifeguard certification
• Experience with a cash register

Pay: $9 Per Hour + Tips
Benefits: Free use of boats (one per employee) on weekdays
Location: Lake Pflugerville (Pflugerville, Texas)
Off Season Hours: Up to 16 hours per weekend (April, May, September and October)
Peak Season Hours: Up to 24 hours per week (June-August)
Dates: April 2 - October 30

PflugFun Kayak Rentals together with the City of Pflugerville Parks and Recreation department are joining forces to help beautify Pflugerville’s crown jewel, Lake Pflugerville!

The lake has only been opened to the public for a few years but we are already are starting to see trash collecting along the shorelines. As the lake becomes more popular, that amount of trash will only increase and we want to do our best to keep it as clean as possible for years to come!

We can’t do this without YOUR help!

PflugFun and the City of Pflugerville will be providing 15 kayaks (4 of them tandems) to help get volunteers to those hard to reach places. We will also be providing trash bags to volunteers and will coordinate the pick up all garbage at a designated location when the event is over.

Our kayak availability is limited so we do encourage those that want to volunteer to bring their own non-motorized watercraft. For those that do not get a chance to use one of our kayaks or bring their own, we’ll also have an on-the-land team of volunteers picking up trash along the more accessible shorelines.

Schedule of Events (Saturday, September 11, 2010):

7:30 – Registration begins at base camp (PflugFun)
8:00 – Group assignments and instructions
8:30 ­– Launch
10:30 – Return to base camp

*Volunteers are encouraged to bring outdoor shoes that can get wet and gloves to protect your hands. Drinking water and trash bags will be provided. And, thanks to our sponsor, Pflugerville Donut (512-252-1118), we will have some donuts available so come early!

The tough part for us is deciding when to open or close when rain is predicted. We’ve had a few instances where people have shown up and there was not a drop within miles of the lake. First off, we want to offer an apology those of you that faced this situation. We know it can be frustrating to get all geared up and ready for some fun in the water only to be greeted with a locked up gate. While we do our best to monitor the weather, it can be very unpredictable and a large thunderstorm can easily fall apart within minutes. In some cases, we thought it was okay to stay open and ended up having to call customers back in because of lightning, high winds and heavy downpours. At the end of the day, your safety is our priority and we hope you can understand when we do decide to close because of questionable weather.

Stand Up Paddle Boards and Pedal Boats – The demand is there so I am working hard to get at least a couple of each available for rent ASAP! We’ve had a few request for canoes but will probably wait until next spring to get those.

Season Passes – Many of you have asked and we plan to deliver. After July 5th, we’ll be offering season passes which will let you use our kayaks any day, any time without having to pay for them over and over again. This is a great option for repeat visitors!
